Animas River Dome

Riverside Wall

This wall lies directly below the Elk Park Buttress and just above the River and forms the southern-most extent of the Animas River Crag formation. A crack line was reportedly established by Joel in the day. An old set of bolt/chain anchors in good condition can be found on top of the south end of the cliff: From the top of the crag descend to below a 40ft wall with a large tree at it's base: walk down skier's left about 30 ft, then angle right along a ramp to the edge of the cliff below the large tree. Look for the anchors near the edge of the cliff. There are probably some good lines in a great setting on this remote cliff.

Riverside Slabs
North of the Riverside Wall is a polished slab with several established lines. Approach by heading north from the top of the Riverside formation until it is possible to work back skiers right (south) to the base of the slabs.

Achey Route- This is an early route reportedly climbed by Jeff Achey in the Outward Bound days. Ascends the extreme right side of the Riverside Wall but starts from the Riverside Slabs area.

Splish 5.13b **** The south end of the slabs are bordered by a large dihedral with an impressive north-facing overhanging wall. Partially bolted and worked by Joel but left as an open project. FFA Mike Patz 8/16/20

Several bolted lines in the 5.11 range exist on the slabs that probably require additional gear, established by Joel.

Middle? 5.11
Right? 5.11

The Grotto

North of the Riverside Slabs. No established routes. Several possible overhanging sport lines exist.
